Promotion And Assessment Policy

At Chinmay International School, assessment is an integral part of the teaching-learning process. Our evaluation system is aligned with CBSE guidelines and is designed to promote academic excellence, conceptual clarity, discipline, and holistic development.

1. Philosophy of Assessment

Our assessment framework is built on the following principles:

  • Continuous and comprehensive evaluation
  • Conceptual understanding over rote learning
  • Regular monitoring of academic progress
  • Constructive feedback for improvement
  • Holistic development of every learnerver rote learning

We believe assessment is not merely a measure of performance, but a tool for growth.

2. Academic Structure (Classes I – VIII)

The academic session is divided into Two Terms:

Term I
  • Periodic Test – I
  • Notebook Submission
  • Subject Enrichment Activity
  • Half-Yearly Examination
Term II
  • Periodic Test – II
  • Notebook Submission
  • Subject Enrichment Activity
  • Annual Examination
Assessment Weightage (Per Subject)
  • Periodic Tests – 10 Marks
  • Notebook Submission – 5 Marks
  • Subject Enrichment Activity – 5 Marks
  • Term-End Examination – 80 Marks

Total: 100 Marks

3. Academic Structure (Classes IX & X)

Assessment is conducted strictly as per CBSE norms.

Scholastic Evaluation (100 Marks)
  • Periodic Tests – 10 Marks
  • Notebook Submission – 5 Marks
  • Subject Enrichment – 5 Marks
  • Board Examination – 80 Marks
Students must secure:
  • Minimum 33% marks in each subject
  • Separate passing in Theory and Internal Assessment (where applicable)
4. Promotion Criteria
A student shall be promoted to the next class based on:
  • Securing minimum passing marks in each subject
  • Overall academic performance throughout the year
  • Completion of required internal assessments
  • Minimum 75% attendance as per CBSE guidelines

Promotion is granted only after careful review by the School Examination Committee.

5. Remedial Measures & Re-Assessment
To support student success, the school may provide:
  • Remedial classes
  • Academic counselling
  • Additional assignments
  • Re-assessment opportunities (at the discretion of the school)

Final decisions regarding promotion remain with the school authorities.

6. Co-Scholastic Assessment
Students are also evaluated in the following areas:
  • Discipline
  • Work Education
  • Art Education
  • Health & Physical Education

Grades are awarded as per the CBSE grading system.

7. Attendance Requirement
  • Minimum 75% attendance is mandatory to appear in final examinations.
  • Medical exemptions must be supported with valid documentation.
  • Students with shortage of attendance may not be eligible for promotion.
8. General Regulations
  • Absence during examinations without prior approval may result in zero marks.
  • Rechecking requests must be submitted within 3 working days of result declaration.
  • The decision of the school authorities shall be final and binding in all matters.
